Three-member French parliamentary team visiting Nepal

KATHMANDU: A three-member delegation of the French Parliament is scheduled to visit Nepal.

A team of French National Assembly members Veronica Riotton, Graziella Melchior and Nicolas Forissier is paying an official visit to Nepal on February 1.

Two of the team’s parliamentarians — Riotton & Melchior — are from the ruling La République En Marche Party and Forissier represents the Republicans Party.

The parliamentary team will also include French Parliament official Pascal Marchain.

The team is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, Speaker of the House of Representatives Agni Prasad Sapkota, Speaker of the National Assembly Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, and Chairman of the Nepal-France Inter-Parliamentary Group and Chairman of the CPN-Unified Socialist Madhav Kumar Nepal.

Likewise, the delegation will also hold meetings with Foreign Minister Narayan Khadka and Mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan City Chiribabu Maharjan.

Speaking to Khabarhub, Binod Khakurel, President of France-Nepal Friendship Association, said that the parliamentarians have informed that the visit has not been canceled yet.

Although the French Embassy has formally informed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs about the visit of the parliamentary team, the Ministry has not given any further official information about the visit of the parliamentary team due to the increasing infection of COVID-19 in Nepal.
