World’s population reaches 8 billion

The world population hit 8 billion people on Friday, a milestone in human development, according to UN estimates.

“The milestone is an occasion to celebrate diversity and advancements while considering humanity’s shared responsibility for the planet,” UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in a statement.

The world’s human population is expected to keep growing, according to the statement.

CEC Thapaliya calls to maintain secrecy of voting, ballot papers

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya has urged one and all to maintain secrecy of the voting and ballot papers in the elections to the House of Representatives (HoR) and provincial assembly scheduled for November 20.

The CEC said that the voters’ right to elect their representatives through the secret voting should be ensured since it was their sovereign right to cast vote without fear, terror, threat, obstruction and any kind of influence.

Thapaliya further said that fear, terror, threat or obstruction in the elections and challenge to the voters’ secrecy for the voting process is deemed punishable as per the election code of conduct, Election (Crime and Punishment) Act and HoR and Provincial Assembly Members Election, 2079 (Voting Guidelines).

PM Deuba says he is committed to people’s mandate

Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has said he is fully committed to abiding by the people’s mandate.

He has requested all the voters to enthusiastically exercise their franchise on coming November 20, giving a mandate to the Left-Democratic Alliance incorporating the Nepali Congress, the CPN (Maoist Centre), the CPN (Unified Socialist), the Sanghiya Samajwadi Party and the Rastriya Janamorcha to serve for them for the next five years and contribute to safeguarding the Constitution.

The Prime Minister was addressing an election gathering organised by the Alliance at West Nawalparasi-1 today.

Nov 20 election a turning point in Nepali politics: Chair Prachanda

Chairman of CPN (Maoist Center) Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has observed that the November 20 election will be a turning point in Nepali politics.

The Maoist Center Chair said so while addressing an election rally at Chaupatta, Bardaghat Municipality in West Nawalparasi today.

Appealing to the people to vote for the ruling coalition, leader Prachanda termed the alliance of the ruling five parties as the Pach Pandav and the alliance led by the main opposition party in the erstwhile Parliament, CPN (UML) as the Kaurav.

Seven persons arrested for campaigning against elections

Mahottari police has arrested seven people who were spreading propaganda against the elections.

District Police Office, Mahottari, said that they were arrested from Balawa-7, Banouta Tole of Mahottari on charges of being involved in anti-election activities.

According to the police, six people, including Birendra Yadav, Rajeshwar Yadav and other central members of CPN (Maoist Revolutionary) Party led by Mohan Vaidya and the driver of a vehicle, were arrested.

EC instructs to prevent usage of different goods at polling centre

The Election Commission of Nepal has issued a four-point instruction regarding the ban of use of prohibited goods in the polling stations on the Election Day.

The prohibited goods are match-box, lighter, camera and mobile phones among others.

The House of Representatives and Province Assembly election are scheduled on November 20 this year in a single phase.

NEPSE loses 6.59 points to close at 1,897.86 

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index has lost 6.59 points to close at 1,897.86 points on Tuesday.

Similarly, the sensitive index fell 1.33 points to close at 373.71 points.

A total of 2,745,109 units of shares of 229 companies were traded for Rs 1.023 billion.

All sub-indices closed red today, except for Banking, Non Life Insurance and Trading.

Nepal sees 14 new coronavirus cases in past 24 hours

Nepal recorded a total of 14 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours as of Tuesday.

Of the confirmed cases, 12 were detected through the RT-PCR method and two through the Antigen method.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, a total of 1,330 swab samples were tested in the past 24 hours.
