NC leader Koirala claims majority against alliance in upcoming election

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader Dr Shekhar Koirala has claimed that most of the CPN-Maoist Center leaders and cadres are against forming an alliance in the upcoming election.

In a meeting with party leaders and cadres at the party office in Janakpudharm yesterday (Thursday), Koirala said he was aware that most of the district presidents of the party in Madhes Province were against forming an electoral alliance. He, however, clarified that an alliance could be formed by giving few seats to other parties.

“I know you are all against forming an alliance in the upcoming elections. The party should take needful decisions by meeting the minimum standards of the alliance,” he told party leaders.

Koirala also said that the party needs to hold broader discussions on the alliance and the number of seats that can be given to alliance partners.

Stating that the scenarios of the local body election and federal election were different, he urged the party leadership to take decisions with a long-term vision.

Commenting on the involvement of unauthorized persons in the manipulation of tax rates while preparing the budget for the fiscal year 2022/23, Koirala said the resignation of Minister for Finance Janardan Sharma has affected the country’s political environment.

“Resignation alone can not be sufficient on such a serious incident, he added.
