AG Khati insists on professional integrity in legal field



KATHMANDU: Attorney General Khamma Bahadur Khati has stressed on professional integrity on the part of law practitioners to further promote the dignity and image of judiciary.

Inaugurating a vocational basic training organised by the Nepal Bar Council here today, the Attorney General stressed that people from the legal field needed to maintain professional integrity to ensure independent, impartial and competent judiciary.

Khati, also the Chair of Nepal Bar Council, shared that they are expected to show high adherence to professional ethics and thus contributing to enhance the presence of judiciary.

Also speaking on the occasion, Nepal Bar Association (NBA) President Chandeshwor Shrestha said time demands lawyers to work in an undeterred way so as to promote independent, impartial and fair judiciary.

As he said, free, efficient and impartial judiciary is one of the major agenda of NBA.

On the occasion, the Attorney General released a handbook which is said to be useful for fresh law practitioners.

The book published by the Council is a collaborative work of High Court former judge Binod Prasad Sharma, senior advocate and Council member Dr Chandra Kant Gyawali and advocate Puja Bhandari.

The art of advocacy and code of conducts of lawyers are among those issues highlighted in the book.

The daylong training is attended by around 1,300 people who are new in the profession.

According to the Council, presently there are 20,000 active lawyers across the country.
