Local level elections: 4,000 polling centers being added

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) is making preparations to increase the number of polling stations and centers.

According to the Commission, 3,928 more polling centers will be added this time.

In the local level elections held in 2074, there had been 18,572 polling centers and 10,640 polling stations.  This time, the EC is making preparations to increase the number of polling centers by 3,928 by taking the total to 22,500. Similarly, the number of polling stations will reach up to 10,756.

The EC has decided to increase the number of the polling centers after the number of voters has increased compared to the local level elections held in 2074, said Chief Election Officer Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya.

In the local level elections held in 2074, the number of voters was 14,054,000. It is estimated that this number will increase up to 17,800,000 this time. If the number up goes as estimated, the number of voters will increase by around 3,800,000.

The number of polling centers have been arranged in proportion to 1,000 voters to one polling center.

Currently, the EC is screening the complaints lodged against the voter-list. The final list of the voters will be published on March 27.
