24 sets of artefacts handed over to Department of Archeology



BHAKTAPUR: The Metropolitan Police Range, Bhaktapur, on Monday handed over a total of 24 set of idols of archeological, historical and religious significance collected from various places.

Chief of Range and Superintendent of Police Shiva Kumar Shrestha handed over those idols to Archeological Officer at the Department Sabita Neupane amid a program. Among the idols, four are wooden, 12 stone idols, one mud idol, one silver plate, one of crystal, one of iron and four of brass. The idols were of Lord Ganesh, God Vishnu, Goddess Bhagawati and lions among others.

These idols were collected from various places in Bhaktapur for a long time and those artefacts and idols were left unattended. Police gave those idols to the Department to secure those artefacts and bring them into use.

Archeological officer Neupane shared that those 24 idols would be kept at museum in Chhauni, Kathmandu. She said the Department would keep the records of the idols received from the police and it would also conduct research on them. Neupane shared that a majority of those idols dated back to Malla era.
