Bandipur immerses in tears after six people from same village killed in jeep accident

KATHMANDU: The entire Bandipur village in Tanahu district has been wallowing in sorrow after losing six people from the same village to a road accident on Friday evening.

Bandipur Rural Municipality Chairperson Purna Singh Thapa said that the entire locality is deeply saddened by the demise of six persons on the eve of Maghe Sankranti, observing the first of Nepali month Magh.

The road accident occurred when a jeep (Ga 1 Ja 6555) fell around 100 meters off the road at Dharampani of Bandipur Rural Municipality-6 in Tanahu. A Dharampani-bound jeep was coming from Sarangghat of the district.

Four persons died on the spot while two others succumbed to injuries during treatment, police said. Those killed in the road accidents were from Bokse and Hatiya village in the district.

Rural Municipality Chair Thapa said the accident that took place during the festival had immersed the entire rural municipality into tears. The driver of the jeep absconded following the accident.

Police is searching for the driver. Meanwhile, eight injured passengers were sent to Bharatpur on Friday night for further treatment.

People’s representatives, security personnel and locals had coordinated efforts for the rescue of the injured.

Santa Bahadur Gurung, ward 6 chair of Bandipur Rural Municipality, said among the deceased, one was a couple while another is mother-son duo. Four dead bodies were retrieved from the accident site while two others breathed their last during the treatment, added Gurung.

The deceased were Hari Neupane,53, of Bandipur Rural Municipality-6 and Sushiladevi Neupane, 48, Roshan Gurung, 24, and Bim Maya Gurung, 50, nine-month-old Aarubi Thapa and 48-year-old Santa Bahadur Gurung, police said.

Those injured in the accident were Jamuna Thapa, 21, Mamkuli Gurung, 48, Kumari Gurung, 22, Sanisha Thapa,16. Furthermore, seven-month-old Bibisha Thapa, Kumar Thapa,18, Dan Bahadur Thapa,20 and Bipin Thapa, 21, were also injured in the accident.
