Ex-Judge Forum challenges suspended CJ Rana to justify his allegations

KATHMANDU: Former Judges’ Forum has denied allegations made by suspended Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana that members of the Forum sought high positions and engaged in power-sharing deals.

The Forum challenged Rana to justify and prove his allegations.

Chairman of the Forum, Top Bahadur Singh, said that Rana’s use of accusations on the members of the Forum during the statement at the parliamentary impeachment recommendation committee has drawn the serious attention of the Forum.

“We regret that the statement of the suspended CJ Rana is expressed in a way that confuses the dignity of all ex-judges,” he said.

Likewise, they also said that the impeachment motion registered against then Chief Justice Rana should be taken over by the new parliament when the term of the House of Representatives (HoR) ends.

Speaking at the press conference organized by Former Judges Forum, Nepal in Kathmandu, FJF Chairman Singh said that the motion would not become inactive when the term of parliament ends and new parliament should take the motion to the conclusion to the logical end.

The impeachment motion registered against Rana on February 13 is currently pending in the parliament’s recommendation committee.

There is still confusion as to what will happen to the impeachment against Rana after the term of the HoR ends on September 18.

Amid the rumors that the suspended Chief Justice Rana is likely to return to the Supreme Court once the parliament’s term is over, FJF clarified that the impeachment motion would be automatically passed to the new parliament when the tenure of the incumbent parliament is over.
