Deputy Speaker of HoR: Bhusal and Bhattarai file nominations

Pushpa Bhusal of the Nepali Congress (NC) and Bidya Bhattarai of CPN-UML have filed their nominations for the vacant post of Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR).

The election to the post of Deputy Speaker of the HoR will be held on Friday.

M Adhikari is not Governor Adhikari: UML

The CPN-UML has clarified that M Adhikari does not refer to Central Bank Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari.

Lately, there is outrage in the public sphere thinking that M Adhikari might be the short form for Maha Prasad Adhikari.

To draw attention to the rumor circulating on social and mainstream media that Governor Adhikari is being referred to as M Adhikari in UML’s finance and planning department, Governor Adhikari had written to the UML central office saying that the Central Bank Governor could not have any ties with any political party and such was unimaginable.

Writ filed against deletion of CCTV footage at Finance Ministry

A writ petition has been filed by Advocate Saroj K Ghimire and Baburam Aryal against the Office of the Prime Minister, Ministry of Finance and Janardan Sharma Prabhakar and others in the matters of deletion of CCTV footage.

Police arrest one with an elephant tusk

Police arrested a person along with an elephant tusk from Khudunabari in Jhapa district on Thursday.

The arrested has been identified as Ramesh Rai, 25, a resident of Ilam and currently living in Arjundhara Municipality-3 in Jhapa district.

YCL demands action against governor

A youth wing of the ruling CPN (Maoist Center), Young Communist League (YCL), has filed a complaint at the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) against Nepal Rastra Bank Governor, Maha Prasad Adhikari.

The League argued that Adhikari was holding post without the required academic qualifications.

Lawmakers demand equal recognition, treatment to NA and HoR

National Assembly (NA) lawmaker Dr Beduram Bhusal has demanded equal recognition and treatment to both Houses enabled by the bicameral federal parliament system envisaged by the Constitution.

He complained that the NA functioning as the Upper House was neglected from media coverage to the implementation of its decisions and directions.

NEPSE goes up by nominal 14.71 points on Thursday

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index gained 14.71 points on Thursday. The index had gained 59.54 points yesterday.

The index that opened at 1987.32 points made an intraday high of 2,012.16 and an intraday low of 1,977.14 and ultimately closed at 2,001.53 points. In terms of percentage, NEPSE gained 0.74 percent today.

Nepal has over 4 million taxpayers

There are four million taxpayers in the country.

As per the 59th report released by the Office of the Auditor General on Wednesday, the number of taxpayers has reached 4.059 million till the fiscal year 2077/78 BS.

The number of taxpayers of three groups—income, value added tax and excise duty has increased, reads the report.
