One shot dead, other injured at Udayapur polling station



UDAYAPUR: A person died while a second person was injured when police opened fire to control the clash between the two sides at Kalika Higher Secondary School polling station in Sorungchhabise, Katari municipality-10 of Udayapur district on Friday evening.

According to Udayapur Chief District Officer Birendra Kumar Yadav, two clashes took place after the ballot boxes were sealed at the Kalika polling station after the evening polling. Police fired four rounds of shots in the air to control the clash.

In the process, Navin Katuwal, 19, of Katari-10 was shot dead while another local Man Kumar Shrestha, 14, was injured.

According to Chief District Officer Yadav, the cause of the clash and police firing warning shots have not been reported yet. A Nepal Army team has reached the spot and cordoned off the site to restore peace. He said that preparations were being made to bring the injured via a Nepal army helicopter for treatment.

Yadav said that they are also investigating the incident. The incident site is 10 kilometers northwest of Katari Bazaar in the hilly area, said CDO Yadav.
