President Bhandari confers decorations on eminent personalities

KATHMANDU: President Bidya Bhandari has adorned distinguished persons, public servants, and those from the social sector with various decorations and honorary titles today.

Former Prime Minister Krishna Prasad Bhattarai has been conferred with the title, Nepal Ratna, former Chairman of the Council of Ministers late Subarna Shamsher Rana, and former Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal have been conferred with Rastra Gaurav, the second-highest civilian award of Nepal.

Similarly,  politicians including late Tulsi Lal Amatya, late Mangala Devi Singh, late Mohan Chandra Adhikari, freedom fighter late Durgananda Jha, Swarsamrat late Narayan Gopal Guruacharya have been adorned with Mahaujjwal Rashtradeep honorary titles.

Likewise, politicians Pradeep Nepal, late Posta Bahadur Bogati, and late Marshal Julum Shakya were honored with Suprasiddha Prabal Janasewashree titles while  Supreme Court Justice Vishwambhar Prasad Shrestha was conferred with the tile, Kirtimaya Rashtradeep.

As the list of recipients of decorations goes around 500, the program is going on now.

Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, Acting Chief Justice Deepak Kumar Karki, Speaker of the House of Representatives Agni Prasad Sapkota, Chairman of the National Assembly Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand, other ministers, and high-ranking officials are present at the special function held at Office of the President, Shital Niwas.

The list of the honorary titles and decorations had been announced by the President on the recommendation of the government on the occasion of Constitution Day (Ashwin 3), 2078 BS.

Eleven honorary titles including Nepal Ratna, Rashtra Gaurav, Mahaujjwal Rashtradeep, Suprasiddha Prabal Janasewashree, Ujjwal Kirtimaya Rashtradeep, Prasiddha Prabal Janasewashree, Sukirtimaya Rashtradeep, Suprabal Janasewashri, Kirtimaya Rashtradeep, Prabal Janasewashri and Janasewashree are being distributed this year.
