Fire engulfs Kanchanjungha Conservation Area



TAPLEJUNG: With the beginning of dry season, cases of wildfire are reported in different parts of the Kanchajungha Conversation Area. A house was gutted at Amjilesa area of Phaktanglung Rural Municipality-6 after a fire broke out there a week ago.

The Office of the Conservation Area said the cases of fire have increased in the recent days.

Chairman of Kanchajungha Conversation Area Management Council Khagendra Phembu Limbu shared that officials, community forest users’ groups and police personnel from Lungthung Police Post were working to bring the fire under control.

Likewise, a fire has been spreading in Patale community forest of Phaktanglung Rural Municipality-5 since Saturday. Efforts are ongoing to douse the fire by marking a fire line.

The Office of the Conservation Area has said the reasons behind the fires have not been confirmed so far.

Conservationists fear the extinction of endangered animals and priceless herbs, which would pose serious threat to the bio-diversity.

However, Conservation Officer Ramesh Yadav of Kanchajungha Conversation Area shared that they were working to extinguish the fires to prevent huge losses.
