Nepal and China have multifaceted relations: PM Deuba
Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba asserted that Nepal and China enjoy multifaceted relationship between the two countries.
PM Deuba said so in a courtesy meeting held with visiting Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC) of the People’s Republic of China, Li Zhanshu, and his delegation at the Office of Prime Minister and Council of Ministers earlier today (Tuesday).
Stating that Nepal’s foreign policy was based on the principle of Panchsheel, the Head of the Government reaffirmed Nepal’s commitment towards ‘One-China Policy’.
Furthermore, he assured the visiting Chinese top legislator that the government will not allow any anti-China activities on Nepali soil.
Deuba also lauded China’s long-standing cooperation in the socio-economic sector of Nepal.
President certifies five bills, excluding Citizenship Bill
President Bidya Devi Bhandari has certified five bills received from the House of Representatives (HoR).
President Bhandari, however, is yet to authenticate the Nepal Citizenship Act (Amendment) Bill, which was approved by both houses of the parliament twice and sent to the President’s Office.
Spokesperson for the President’s Office Sagar Acharya, issuing a statement on Tuesday, informed that the President authenticated five bills as per Article 113 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal, 2015.
The bills authenticated on Tuesday include Bill to Amend and Integrate Statistics Act, Standard, Measurement and Weight Act (Amendment) Bill, Accreditation Bill, Yogmaya Ayurveda University Bill and Bill Related to Oath of Office.
Humanitarian assistance handed over to Pakistan
Nepal has handed over humanitarian assistance of over 22 tons to Pakistan to help it meet the challenges posed by the recent natural disaster.
The relief material was handed over to Sindh Provincial Social Welfare Minister Sajid Jokhio of Pakistan by Joint Secretary Sewa Lamsal in Karachi on Tuesday as a token of solidarity, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The team that reached with the relief materials handed over the relief materials to Minister Jokhio at a program held earlier today at the Jinnah International Airport in Karachi.
The materials included essential medicines, food, and clothes.
Prachanda urges China to help reduce Nepal-China trade deficit
CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has urged the Chinese side to bring in through the strategic development partnership necessary investment in big projects of Nepal’s prioritized sectors.
He made this request during his meeting with the visiting Chairman of the Chinese National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China, Li Zhanshu, at the Federal Parliament Building, New Baneshwor, today.
On the occasion, Dahal said that Chinese support is necessary for Nepal’s development and prosperity. He also stressed on the need of creating an environment for the speedy implementation of the projects under taken under projects including BRI, Dahal’s secretariat stated.
The Maoist Centre chairman urged the Chinese side to facilitate in immediately opening the transit points on the Nepal-China border, including the Tatopani and Rasuwagadhi checkpoints, so that the China-imported goods can enter Nepal in time as big festivals like Dashain, Tihar and others are approaching in the country.
Parliamentary committee concludes suspended CJ Rana’s statement
The Impeachment Recommendation Committee has concluded recording statement of the suspended Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana on Tuesday.
Lawmakers, including those from Nepali Congress and CPN-Maoist Center, among others, had filed an impeachment motion against Chief Justice Rana in the House of Representatives on February 13.
The parliament had formed a committee to recommend further actions ahead in the impeachment motion.
Chief Justice Rana had got suspended after the registration of the impeachment motion.
The parliamentary committee had prepared 43 questions to get the statement of the suspended Chief Justice. Although most of the questions were answered by Rana by Monday, there were eight questions left for Tuesday.
Rana made many objections against the allegations levelled to impeach him during his five-day statement recordings.
Madhav Nepal-led Unified Socialist will not cross threshold of 3 pc votes: UML Chair Oli
CPN UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has claimed that Madhav Kumar Nepal-led Unified Socialist Party will not cross the minimum threshold.
Inaugurating a program in Pokhara on Tuesday, Oli said the Unified Socialist would not have active leaders and cadres till November 20 elections.
He said, “Note this: Madhav Nepal will not cross the threshold of 3 percent votes. However, do give him votes so that they would secure one seat.”
He charged that the Unified Socialist had no concrete ideology and its Chair Nepal is among those who are hell bent to ruin the country.
Visiting NPC Chair Li holds meeting with UML Chairman Oli
As part of his political meetings in Kathmandu, visiting China’s National People’s Congress Standing Committee Chairman Li Zhanshu held talks with CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli on Tuesday.
According to the UML party, the meeting was held at the Parliament House in Naya Baneswor.
Earlier today, Li held talks with Chairman of the National Assembly Ganesh Timilsena in Kathmandu.
The meeting was held between the delegations of both the countries — Nepal and China.
Impeachment Recommendation Committee to summon those named by suspended CJ Rana
The Impeachment Recommendation Committee formed by the House of Representatives has decided to call the former chief justice, judges, advocates and politicians mentioned by suspended Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana during his statement before the Committee.
The Committee’s meeting held in Singha Durbar on Tuesday afternoon decided to call all people the suspended Chief Justice mentioned in the statement.
“The committee decided to summon the people who Rana mentioned during the statement about matters including contracts, corruption, irregularity, bribery, extortion, influence on the administration of justice,” Meen Bishwakarma, one of the members of the recommendation committee said, adding, “We will work out the detailed plans for summoning those people.”
Nepal to accept 275 million US dollar loan assistance provided by World Bank
The Government has decided to accept 275 million US Dollars loan assistance provided by the World Bank.
Unveiling the Cabinet decisions taken on Monday, Minister for Communications and Information Technology, who is also the Government Spokesperson, Gyanendra Bahadur Karki said that the loan assistance would be used in transport and market promotion programs.
Likewise, the government had decided to form a talk team to accept 12 million US dollar loan assistance provided by the Asian Development Bank.
Meanwhile, the government had decided to approve the Social Security 2nd amendment Regulation 2079 and to permit the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to sign on agreement paper to establish Nepal-Romania bilateral consultation mechanism.
Likewise, the meeting decided to promote Senior Superintendent of Police Niranjan Bista to the post of Deputy Inspector General of Police as the police employee at the National Vigilance Centre.
Nepal’s FDI exceeds Rs 227 billion
Nepal received foreign direct investment of over Rs 227 billion from 55 countries as of mid-July.
According to a survey report on foreign direct investment (FDI) issued by the Nepal Rastra Bank today (Tuesday), the stock of FDI in Nepal increased by 14.8 percent to reach Rs.227.9 billion at the end of fiscal year 2020/21.
Paid-up capital is the major component in FDI stock as it accounts for 53.9 percent of total FDI stock whereas the reserves and loans in total FDI stock accounts for 31.6 percent and 14.5 percent respectively, the report shows.
Similarly, in terms of total FDI stock, India ranks top position with Rs 75.8 billion followed by China (Rs 33.0 billion), Ireland (Rs 16.5 billion), Singapore (Rs 15.5 billion) and Saint Kitts and Nevis (Rs 14.5 billion).
Gold being traded at Rs 93,500 per tola today
The price of gold has decreased by Rs 100 in the domestic market today.
According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the hallmark gold is being traded at Rs 93,500 per tola.
The price of yellow metal was Rs 93,600 per tola on Monday.
Nepal sees 203 new coronavirus cases in past 24 hours
Nepal recorded a total of 203 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours as of Tuesday.
Of the confirmed cases, 87 were detected through the RT-PCR method and 116 through the Antigen method.
According to the Ministry of Health and Population, a total of 5,059 swab samples were tested in the past 24 hours.
Of them, 1,300 samples were tested through RT-PCR and 3,759 through the Antigen method.
NEPSE gains 21.30 points to close at 1,934.04 on Tuesday
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index has gained 21.30 points to close at 1,934.04 points on Tuesday.
Likewise, the Sensitive Index also went up by 3.83 points to settle at 376.17 points.
The index that opened at 1,913.41 made an intraday low of 1,913.20, an intraday high of 1,940.85 and ultimately closed at 1,934.04 points today (Tuesday).
A total of 3,146,996 units of shares of 231 companies changed hands via 20,520 transactions, resulting in turnover of Rs 922 million.
