Nepal and China have multifaceted relations: PM Deuba

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba asserted that Nepal and China enjoy multifaceted relationship between the two countries.

PM Deuba said so in a courtesy meeting held with visiting Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC) of the People’s Republic of China, Li Zhanshu, and his delegation at the Office of Prime Minister and Council of Ministers earlier today (Tuesday).

Stating that Nepal’s foreign policy was based on the principle of Panchsheel, the Head of the Government reaffirmed Nepal’s commitment towards ‘One-China Policy’.

Furthermore, he assured the visiting Chinese top legislator that the government will not allow any anti-China activities on Nepali soil.

Deuba also lauded China’s long-standing cooperation in the socio-economic sector of Nepal.

Li arrived here on Monday on a four-day official visit at the invitation of Speaker of House of Representatives, Agni Prasad Sapkota, leading a 67-member delegation.

Expressing his happiness over the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Speaker Sapkota on Monday, Deuba was confident that the MoU on Inter-parliamentary Cooperation would further strengthen ties between the two countries.

In response, NPC Chairperson Li said that friendly relations have been established between the two countries since the past six decades.

On the occasion, Li also recalled the visit, meetings and agreements inked between the then Prime Minister BP Koirala and the erstwhile Chinese leadership in the 1960s.

Furthermore, extending his best wishes on Nepal’s upcoming Constitution Day on September 19 this year, the visiting top Chinese legislator said that China was concerned and aware about Nepal’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and national unity.
