Parliamentary committee concludes suspended CJ Rana’s statement



KATHMANDU: The Impeachment Recommendation Committee has concluded recording statement of the suspended Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana on Tuesday.

Lawmakers, including those from Nepali Congress and CPN-Maoist Center, among others, had filed an impeachment motion against Chief Justice Rana in the House of Representatives on February 13.

The parliament had formed a committee to recommend further actions ahead in the impeachment motion.

Chief Justice Rana had got suspended after the registration of the impeachment motion.

The parliamentary committee had prepared 43 questions to get the statement of the suspended Chief Justice. Although most of the questions were answered by Rana by Monday, there were eight questions left for Tuesday.

Rana made many objections against the allegations levelled to impeach him during his five-day statement recordings.

He also expressed objections to the role of many people, including Supreme Court judges, advocates and politicians.

The committee has decided on Tuesday itself to call the people who Rana named during his statement.
