NPC Chair Li holds talks with Foreign Minister Khadka



KATHMANDU: Visiting Chairman of National People’s Congress Standing Committee of China, Li Zhanshu remained busy in political meetings in Kathmandu on Tuesday.

In the afternoon, Li held talks with Nepal’s Foreign Minister Dr. Narayan Khadka in Kathmandu.

Earlier today, he held talks with CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli and Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda.

Li is scheduled to meet President Bidya Devi Bhandari at Rashtrapati Bhavan Sheetal Niwas on Wednesday afternoon.

Meanwhile, on Monday, the Federal Parliament of Nepal and the National People’s Congress of China inked a six-point memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Kathmandu.

Speaker Sapkota and Li signed the agreement at an event held at the Federal Parliament Building in New Baneshwar, Kathmandu.

According to the agreement, both parties would exchange information on each other’s legislative, supervisory and governance practices.

The MoU between the two parliaments also mentions the Belt and Road Initiative, an ambitious project promoted by China.

According to the agreement, the two governments would accord priority and facilitate the promotion of inter-nation relationships, mutual benefits, and commitments between the two countries, including through the Belt and Road Initiative, the fifth point of the MoU read.

Similarly, both parties have agreed to strengthen cooperation under the framework of international and regional parliamentary organizations, including the Inter-Parliamentary Union, on matters of common interest.

Li landed at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu on Monday.

Leading a delegation of about 100 people, leader Li is on a four-day official visit to Nepal at the invitation of Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota.

He will return home on September 15 on a special flight.
