133 advocates given title of ‘senior advocates’

KATHMANDU: The full court meeting of the Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday decided to confer the title of ‘senior advocate’ to 133 advocates.

The meeting attended by Acting Chief Justice Dipak Kumar Karki and all other Justices at Supreme Court took this decision in accordance with Section 21 of Nepal Legal Practitioners Act, 2050, according to SC Spokesperson, Bimal Poudel.

The legal practitioners having the letters of certificate from 1582 (2043BS) to 5207 (2051BS) are awarded the title of ‘senior advocates.’

Some of those being honoured with the title are current Minister for Law, Justice and Federal Affairs, Govinda Sharma Koirala (Bandi), President of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs of parliament, Krishna Bhakta Pokhrel, former general secretary of Nepal Bar Association, Sunil Kumar Pokhrel, and advocate working for women rights and justice for long, Mira Dhungana.

Earlier, Nepal Bar Association had drawn the SC’s attention to take decision on conferring the ‘senior advocate’ title.
