Lawmakers demand probe into Governor Adhikari’s UML membership

KATHMANDU: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari’s alleged political affiliation with CPN-UML has been raised as an issue of concern in the House of Representatives (HoR) on Wednesday.

Taking part in the HoR meeting today, CPN-Maoist Center lawmaker Rekha Sharma has demanded a probe into the Governor’s UML membership.

“It has come to light Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari is a member of the CPN (UML)’s economic and planning department,” lawmaker Sharma said, adding, ” It is mockery of the legal provision to let a party cadre to be appointed as the Governor of NRB.”

She further argued that the provision that an individual associated with any party should not be appointed the Governor in contravention of the existing laws, the Bank’s Act and Regulations.

Lawmaker Sharma demanded an investigation in this connection and action against both sides- the side making the appointment and the side who got appointed.

The UML’s latest intra-party directive states that M Adhikari (Khotang) has been appointed as the member of the CPN (UML) economic and planning department.
