EC preliminary estimate puts local election voter turnout at 64 percent
Voter turnout in the local level election held Friday has stood at 64 percent.
Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Thapaliya said that the voter turnout since 7 am to 5 pm today was about 64 percent.
Voting completed with sporadic incidents
Voting for the local level election 2079 has been completed peacefully, with sporadic incidents of disturbances. As a result, the Nepal Police has concluded that the election was held peacefully.
Nepal Police Spokesperson Senior Superintendent of Police Bishnukumar KC said that the election was held peacefully despite sporadic incidents in different districts.
According to him, 110 incidents have taken place in more than 30 districts as per the details received at the Police Headquarters as of 5:00 pm on Friday.
Jeep mishap toll reaches 14, thirteen sustain injuries
Fourteen people have died and 13 others sustained injuries after a jeep met with an accident at Panchamul in Waling municipality-14 of Syangja.
All the injured have been taken to Pokhara for treatment, said Chief District Officer of Syangja Raju Paudel.
According to District Police Office, Syangja, a jeep, Ga 2 Cha 3026, heading to Waling carrying voters from Shikre veered off the road and fell some 150 meters down the road at Walling-14 Arkhalabas.
Police inspector’s wayward firing kills youth in Udaypur
A voter has been shot dead by a police inspector at a polling station in Udayapur.
The situation turned tense in local Sorung Chhabbise of Udayapur after a police inspector opened fire as voting came to an end.
Independent candidate Gaurav Bahadur Katwal’s son Nabin, 21, died on the spot from the inspector’s firing. Staff at the polling station and other police officials said that Navin was killed because of the inspector.
Collection of ballot boxes begins
Collection of the ballot boxes from different polling centers has started across the country with the local election voting hours coming to an end.
The Election Commission (EC) had fixed voting hours from 7 am to 5 pm today for the local level election.
The office of the election officer stated that the collection of ballot boxes from polling centers in Kathmandu Valley has started.
Clashes broke out in 16 places, warning shots fired in eight places on election day
Clashes broke out in at least 16 places across the nation during the local level polls held on Friday. Police even had to fire into the air to control tense situations in some of the places.
