KATHMANDU: Clashes broke out in at least 16 places across the nation during the local level polls held on Friday. Police even had to fire into the air to control tense situations in some of the places.

Police took to aerial fire at polling stations at Chankheli Rural Municipality of Humla, Champadevi Rural Municipality-9, Okhaldhunga, Doramba, Shailung and Khandadevi rural municipalities of Ramechhap, Ghyalchowk of Gorkha, Dhankaul and Kaudena of Sarlahi and Budhinanda Municipality of Bajura.

Clashes also broken out at polling stations in Thatikandh of Dailekh, Chauri Deurali-6 of Kavre and Pachrauti-2 of Bara.

Likewise, one cadre each of the CPN-Maoist Center and the CPN-UML have been injured in a khukuri altercation in Kohalpur of Banke.

Police Spokesperson Bishnu Kumar KC said that the situation in most of the affected areas was under control and voting resumed peacefully. He added that polling had halted only in Dhankaul of Sarlahi.
