Peacekeeper Gurung’s body brought to Nepal



KATHMANDU: The body of a Nepali peacekeeper, Anil Gurung, who was killed in the line of duty in Congo, has been brought to Nepal.

Gurung’s body was brought to Nepal on Tuesday, the Nepal Army has informed.

According to the Nepal Army Headquarters, a group of militias had attacked a squad of Nepali peacekeepers at a time when the Nepali peacekeepers invaded the stronghold of the militias in Bali following a cordon and search operation.

Critically injured Gurung, who had been airlifted to Level 2 Hospital in Bunia from the incident site, breathed his last in the course of treatment.

Originally from Gurbhakot-14 of Surkhet, Gurung have been offered floral tributes by the Nepal Army at a condolence ceremony organized at Birendra Military Hospital, Chhauni.

Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Prabhu Ram Sharma draped a national flag over the mundane body of Gurung and paid tributes to the departed soul on the occasion.

Gurung’s body is being airlifted to his home district Surkhet today itself.
