KATHMANDU: CPN-Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said foreign forces were active to establish a two-party system in Nepal.

Addressing at the party’s Province 1-level training program organized in Biratnagar on Sunday, he claimed that a conspiracy was being hatched to introduce a two-party system by eliminating the existence of the Maoists.

Prachanda stressed that the Maoist Center needed to win federal, state and local elections to thwart such a conspiracy.

“In the upcoming federal, provincial and local elections, there is an ‘international reaction’ to eliminate the revolutionaries and establish a two-party system,” he said, adding, “If we don’t win the elections then it will not be the loss of our party and candidates.

“The nation will lose, the achievement of the people’s revolution will be lost. Inclusive and proportional democracy will lose.”

Prachanda also urged the cadres not to take the election lightly.

He said that during the 2017 elections, Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba and Madhes-centric party leaders had repeatedly visited his residence in Khumaltar and asked him to be the sole prime minister for five years. However, he said that he remained loyal to the communist coalition then.

He said that was an unfortunate decision taken by him, given that four years later he reached Deuba residence in Budhanilkantha to request NC president to be the prime minister.
