BANKE: The risk of COVID-19 infection is further mounting in the Banke district due to an open border system between Nepal and India.

Though the corona test on the arrival has been ensured along with the Jamunah transit point in Nepalgunj, people’s cross-border movement via other rural check points is unhindered.

District COVID-19 Management Centre’s resource person Tej Oli said lately the infections rate is increasing among the returnees from India.

The southern neighbor reports record-high cases of COVID-19 as the latest Omicron variant is a matter of global concern.

On Wednesday alone, 27 cases were detected along with the Jamunah point. There were 17 infected: 11 males and 6 females at the Nepalgunj-based Bal Mandir COVID-19 Isolation Center.

Against this backdrop, the District Administration Office, Banke has urged the public not to create a gathering and follow all the recommended health protocols against the virus.

Chief District Officer Surya Bahadur Khatri said the political gathering, public program, fair, festival, or any kind of public event having the presence of more than 25 people have been banned in view of the increased risk of the infection.
