Int’l peasants’ summit being held in Nepal



KATHMANDU: The International Peasants’ Movement is being held in Nepal from December 12 to 17.

Leaders and representatives of the movement from 80 countries, including Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, India, and Nepal are attending the event being held at Godawari, Lalitpur.

As part of the movement, there are global expansion of various streams as networks of the countries which are party to progressive lefts, and food sovereignty.

Incorporating almost all countries of the world, the peasants’ organizations are categorized in regional blocs.

The leaders representing their regions as south Asia, south east Asia, middle east, Europe, north America, central America, south Africa, and north Africa, would deliberate on the defining issues as food crisis, poverty and hunger caused by COVID in the international level.

Other agenda to be dwelt on during the event are impact of climate change on agricultural production, impacts of super powers in agriculture, economic transformation to bring change in life and livelihood of farmers, and guarantee of food sovereignty to citizen, among others.

All Nepal Peasant’s Federation affiliated to the CPN (Unified Socialist) will represent the summit from Nepal, according to General Secretary of the Federation, Pramesh Pokhrel.
