Bharatpur Mayor Dahal urges PM Deuba to take Intl Cricket Stadium construction ahead



KATHMANDU: Mayor of Chitwan’s Bharatpur Metropolitan City Renu Dahal has requested Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba to further the construction activities of Dhurmus-Foundation initiated International Cricket Stadium.

Meeting Prime Minister Deuba at his official residence in Baluwatar on Tuesday morning, Mayor Dahal requested the PM for necessary assistance in the construction of the stadium.

The construction work of the stadium was started by the Dhurmus-Suntali Foundation of artists Sitaram Kattel ‘Dhurmus’ and Kunjana Ghimire ‘Suntali’. The construction work carried out by the foundation by collecting donations from various individuals and organizations is currently stalled.

Due to the economic crisis and some disputes, the Dhurmus-Suntali Foundation withdrew from the construction of the stadium.

According to the secretariat of Mayor Dahal, the Prime Minister directed the concerned authorities to take initiation to complete the construction work of the stadium.

During the meeting with the Prime Minister, Mayor Dahal discussed issues related to the overall development of Chitwan district.

She informed Prime Minister Deuba about the expansion of Bharatpur Airport, underground electrification of Madi area, upgrading of postal road in Madi forest area and other issues.

Former Prime Minister and CPN-Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Chief Secretary Shankar Das Bairagi, and Chief of Army Staff General Prabhuram Sharma were also present at the meeting.
