NC Gen Secy Thapa prescribes tips for garbage management

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Gagan Thapa has suggested six tips to manage garbage in Kathmandu Valley.

Even though authorities concerned have started collecting garbage in Kathmandu Valley, Thapa suggested a long-term solution to garbage management.

He appreciated the initiatives of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balendra Shah and Urban Development Minister Ram Kumari Jhankri for waste management.

“Something urgent needs to be done to prevent such a catastrophe from happening again,” Thapa has written on his Facebook.

According to him, the residents of the Sisdol and Bancharedada area who took part in the discussion held by the Ministry of Urban Development said that this was the 175th agreement reached between them and the government on waste management.

Thapa has said such agreements are reached but lack implementation.

Therefore, he has raised skepticism over the implementation of the latest agreement reached between the Sisol and Bancharedanda locals and the government recently.

This skepticism has to be dispelled this time by implementing the agreement and within the stipulated time frame, he has suggested.

“For this, it is necessary for the Ministry of Urban Development to carry out the work specified by the federal government within the stipulated time,” Thapa has suggested.

In some cases, the initiative of the Prime Minister’s Office is needed to accomplish the promised work on time, he said.

NC General Secretary Thapa has also suggested that the issue of land acquisition should be settled in this fiscal year.

“In order to provide reasonable compensation as prescribed by law, the Prime Minister must make arrangements for the allocation of sufficient amount in the budget of this Fiscal Year,” he added.

He has also said that all other local levels sending garbage to Sisdol also need to work in constant coordination with the Kathmandu Metropolis.
