KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has criticized the government for the dismissal of the governor during economic slump and has labeled the move as an irresponsible act.
Speaking at a program organized by the Civil Servants Union in Kathmandu Tuesday, Dr. Koirala said that the suspension of the governor would further aggravate the economy.
“The country’s economy is in a state of decline. There is no doubt that the suspension of the Nepal Rastra Bank governor at a time when the economy is in decline will only add to the embarrassment,” he said.
Claiming that conflict between the government and governor is a common phenomenon, NC leader Koirala said the governor should not be suspended for mere disagreement with the Finance Minister.
“It is irresponsible of Finance Minister Janardan Sharma to suspend the governor for not listening,” he said, adding, “As a responsible official of the regulatory body, NRB Governor can make the government change the decision if they seem counter-productive to the economy.
