Protests against MCC grant are just for gaining political space: NPC Vice-Chair Poudel

KATHMANDU: Speakers at a program organized Saturday argued that the protests taking place against the US government’s MCC grant assistance have created illusions among people by using it as a tool for political interest.

They claimed that spreading rumor against MCC grant assistance was political dishonesty.

Speaking on the occasion, National Planning Commission (NPC) Vice Chairman Dr Bishwo Poudel said, “The protests subject to MCC grant assistance are normal. It is open secret the protests of the present time are aimed at getting political space.”

The NPC Vice-Chairman said the longstanding Nepal-US relations should not be destabilized.

Likewise, senior advocate Gandhi Pandit said US-Nepal diplomatic relations should not be weakened by spreading rumors among the general public. Similarly, water resources expert Gyanendra Lal Pradhan and political analyst Arun Kumar Subedi said MCC grant should not be misinterpreted, adding that such misinterpretation was against the national interest.

On the occasion, Saroj Mishra, Bijaya Mishra, Prof Kapil Shrestha, Semanta Dahal, Hari Binod Adhikari, Prof Krishna Hachhethu and others expressed their opinions on necessity and relevance of MCC for Nepal’s development.
