UML objects to construction of structures on Nepal’s territory by India

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML has said its attention was drawn towards the Government of India’s construction of various infrastructures in Lipulek and Limpiyadhura area which is the inalienable territory of Nepal.

Dr Rajan Bhattarai of the UML’s Foreign Affairs Department stated in a press release on Tuesday that Nepal has already made its legal and political stance on this matter clear through the political-administrative map and the constitution amendment last year itself. He has also recalled that the Government of Nepal had also started diplomatic initiatives back then for bringing back these territories.

“The serious attention of CPN-UML has been drawn to the Indian side’s expediting the construction of infrastructures including roadway in the same Nepali territory in violation of the agreement reached in the meeting of the Nepal-India Joint Commission to settle the remaining issues, including the border issue, between the two countries through diplomatic means,” reads the press release.

The main opposition party in parliament has also called on the Indian side to immediately stop such activities damaging the sovereignty, territorial integrity and dignity of Nepal.

It has demanded immediate halt to the construction of structures including road by India on Nepal’s territory and finalizing the topic through talks. No structures should be constructed from the State level until a solution is found on this matter through dialogue, the UML reminded.
