PM Deuba asks professors to abide by university’s academic calendar



KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has urged the professors to maintain environment conducive for teaching and learning activities and abide by the academic calendar while raising their demands and rights.

Inaugurating the Diamond Jubilee celebration of Nepal University Teachers’ Association in Kathmandu Thursday, the PM urged to resolve the problems and challenges amicably by forging a harmonious relation among the university, professors and students.

“Development of a country is measured on the basis of the country’s educational quality. So, the Tribhuvan University and different other universities should produce competent academic human resources required for the society who can compete in the global market. In this regard, I am confident that the professors would discharge their duty with sole responsibility,” according to the PM, who is also the Chancellor of the TU.

Likewise, the PM pledged support on behalf of the state to make the university education more qualitative and research-based. On the occasion, he opined that the higher education should be skills and employment-generating, contextual and technology-friendly.

Also speaking at the event, Minister for Education, Science and Technology Devendra Poudel said university education should be made research-based and Nepal should be made the center of attraction for the international-level teachers and professors.

On the occasion, Association’s former president and former minister Bhimsen Das Pradhan and others were felicitated.
