SC hearing on IGP Singh-related case today

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) is hearing on the writ petition against the government’s decision to promote Dhiraj Pratap Singh to the post of Inspector General of Police (IGP) today.

According to SC sources, a division bench comprising acting Chief Justice Deepak Kumar Karki and Justice Kumar Chudal is likely to pronounce the verdict after Monday’s hearing.

AIG Bishwaraj Pokharel had filed a case at the apex court on May 2 alleging that his junior Singh had been appointed as the IGP.

In the writ, Pokharel has argued that contrary to the provisions of the Police Acts and Rules, the government promoted his junior Singh to the IGP despite the fact that he (Pokharel) was still eligible for the post.

Pokharel has sought an order to reverse the government decision and appoint him as IGP.
