Ensure people’s oversight on local government: Chair Prachanda

POKHARA: Chairperson of the CPN (Maoist Center) Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said people must have intervention and oversight of local levels.

Democratization of system is imperative by maintaining revolutionary spirit, he said at an orientation organized for the local level representatives in Pokhara on Saturday. The ideological political training and orientation was organized by Maoist Centre’s Gandaki Province Committee.

The newly elected local level representatives from the Maoist Center should be built as the foundation for socialist future, he stressed.

“In 121 local levels where the party got victory, socialist foundation should be created,” Chairperson Prachanda said, urging the elected ones to pay heed to people’s voice and suggestions first and take action accordingly.

The party Chairperson however admitted that the party was facing identity crisis in the recent time. People, as he argued, were making standpoint that all parties are of same nature.

“We are facing identity crisis, we lost identity in practice,” he reminded. According to him, his party had expected more seats in the local level election but could not reach the target due to non-cooperative alliance.

He expressed sadness that in the districts having Maoist’s stronghold, parties in the alliance forged electoral alliance with UML, which caused loss to Maoist Center. He informed that current existing ruling alliance would be continued in the coming province and federal elections too.

On the occasion, senior leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha said we moved ahead with peaceful competition but are not the partners of capitalism. “Party’s plan of action at present is to create foundation of socialism to dismantle capitalism,” he asserted.
