Preparedness to reduce loss incurred from monsoon-induced disasters in Banke

BANKE: The District Disaster Relief Committee, Banke, has decided to implement early preparedness and disaster risk reduction (DRR) to reduce the loss incurred from monsoon-induced disasters.

As monsoon has already entered the country and is currently active in Province No 1, Madhesh Province, Bagmati Province and Gandaki Province, the concerned authority in Banke district has put in place the disaster response programs prior to the occurrence of the disasters.

Chief District Officer (CDO) of Banke Surya Bahadur Khatri shared that the disaster response program was activated estimating that around 10,000 people in Banke district would be affected by monsoon-induced disasters while 25,000 people could be affected by other disasters.

All security agencies and thematic committees were standby as there is a prediction that this monsoon there will be above average rainfall in many parts of the country, informed CDO Khatri.

A mock rescue operation would be practiced at Rapti River at Kamdi of Daduwa rular municipality at 11 am on June 20.

Similarly, identification of risky zones, safe zones, updating the human resources and well-equipping them, disaster survey and banning fishing, swimming in the river and preventing firewood and fodder collection in the forest areas among others would be executed to minimize the risk emanating from the monsoon-induced disasters, he said.

For post-disaster relief operation, food, clothes, medicines and water facility would be stored adequately.

Early warning system would be implemented to pre-inform the locals.

To prevent sweeping of the land, concerned authorities will be instructed to do the needful action.
