4.7-magnitude quake jolts central Nepal



KATHMANDU: A tremor has been felt in the Kathmandu Valley in the wee hours on Saturday morning.

According to the National Seismological Center, Lainchaur, a 4.7-magnitude earthquake struck the central central region of Nepal with its epicenter around Changunarayan in Bhaktapur at 2:36 am.

People ran outdoors in panic even though the earthquake struck in the middle of the night.

No casualties have been reported so far.

The tremors were felt in all the the Kathmandu Valley as well as the surrounding districts.

The quake was reportedly an aftershock of the 2015 Gorkha earthquake. Sujan Kumar Subedi, a seismologist at the Center, shared that there were 583 aftershocks above 4 magnitude in Nepal after the Gorkha earthquake.

Earlier, a 4-magnitude earthquake had struck far-west Nepal with its epicenter in Baitadi on June 7.
