Acting Governor Dhungana urges all to have patience

Says there is pressure on liquidity

KATHMANDU: Acting Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank Dr. Neelam Dhungana Timsina has urged all to show patience as the banking system is still experiencing liquidity pressure.

Speaking at the 3rd National Microfinance Members’ Summit in Kathmandu on Monday, Dhungana said that everyone needs to be patient for some time as the microfinance and overall banking sector is going through liquidity crunch. She said that there is a problem of liquidity and interest rate not only in the banking sector but also in microfinance.

She pointed out that the overall economy and the people were suffering due to fluctuations in liquidity and interest rates.

“Since the business cycle will also be cyclical, everything will gradually improve,” the acting Governor said.

She added that microfinance institutions have been an effective tool for alleviating poverty and remarked that microfinance institutions have been contributing in mainstreaming around 20 percent of the financially excluded community in Nepal.
