KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said the local government must be accountable and sensitive because it is the government nearest to the people.
Addressing a program organized by the Godawari Municipality on Friday, he said the federal system has bestowed various rights including development and service delivery to the local governments.
“As the local level is the closest government to people, it is natural that citizens have huge expectations with it,” he said, adding that public service delivery should be ensured with the utilization of available resources.
The PM also stressed building good governance with transparency and accountability at local levels.
He expressed delight over the Godawari Municipality’s delivery of quality service to the people including the construction of physical infrastructures.
On the occasion, PM Deuba released a souvenir ‘Godawari’.
He said that the country was currently moving towards socio-economic prosperity, social transformation and equitable society after passing through a long political transition.
Reminding that the country was now on the run-up to the local level election, the people would evaluate the performance of their representatives and cast vote accordingly.
On a different note, PM Deuba appreciated the role the people’s representatives played in the COVID-19 crisis.
