Cricketer Sandeep claims innocence in court

Complainant is not a minor, says Sandeep Lamichhane

KATHMANDU: Cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane, who has been alleged of raping a minor, claimed innocence at the Kathmandu District Court.

Lamichhane appeared in court on Monday and claimed that he was innocent.

Lamichhane, who was arrested last week, was brought before the District Court, Kathmandu by the police for an extension.

He told the judge that he met the girl at the request of the complainant.

Sandeep’s lawyer Saroj Krishna Ghimire said, “Sandeep Lamichhane presented all the details before the court that he is innocent.”

Advocate Sudha Rijal said two birth certificates of the girl have been found, which shows that attempts were being made to trap Lamichhane.

“There is a suspicion that someone might have mobilized the girl,” she said.

Court grants permission to detain cricketer Sandeep for seven days

Meanwhile, the Court granted permission to detain cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane, who was arrested on rape charges, for seven days for investigation.

The deadline for investigation has been extended for 7 days, counting from October 6.

The deadline for the investigation is ending on October 12.

Although he was arrested four days ago, due to a public holiday, Sandeep was not taken to court.

He returned to Nepal almost after a month after the arrest warrant was issued against him.

Although he had said he would surrender, the police arrested him at Tribhuvan International Airport soon after his arrival.

A teenage girl has alleged Sandeep of rape.
