KATHMANDU: Cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane, who has been alleged of raping a minor, claimed innocence at the Kathmandu District Court.

Lamichhane appeared in court on Monday and claimed that he was innocent.

Lamichhane, who was arrested last week, was brought before the District Court, Kathmandu by the police for an extension.

He told the judge that he met the girl at the request of the complainant.

Sandeep’s lawyer Saroj Krishna Ghimire said, “Sandeep Lamichhane presented all the details before the court that he is innocent.”

Advocate Sudha Rijal said two birth certificates of the girl have been found, which shows that attempts were being made to trap Lamichhane.

“There is a suspicion that someone might have mobilized the girl,” she said.
