Govt increases public transport fares



KATHMANDU: The government has again increased public transport fares.

Issuing a notice on Friday, the Department of Transportation Management (DoTM) said the fares of interprovincial freight and passenger vehicles have been increased. Earlier, the fare of passenger vehicles was reduced by 2 percent on May 25.

The fare for passenger carriers has increased by 2.5 percent today, according to DoTM.

Similarly, fares of freight vehicles operating on hilly roads have increased by 3.3 percent and fares of freight vehicles operating on Terai roads have increased by 3.7 percent.

After the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) increased the price of petroleum products, the DoTM also decided to adjust the vehicle fare. NOC had increased the price of diesel by Rs 12 from Thursday midnight.

The DoTM has been adjusting the fare by maximum five percent on the basis of increase or decrease of fuel price.
