Vehicular movement obstructed as road collapses on Prithvi Highway

Two bodies found on river bank

TANAHUN: Vehicular movement along the Anbukhaireni section of Prithvi Highway has been disrupted as the road collapsed following heavy rain since last night.

Almost 20 meters of the road near Sankhar dam on the highway have collapsed obstructing the two-way traffic, police said.

The bodies of two men have been found on the bank of the river Marsyangdi. The deceased have not been identified yet, said Gokarna Nepal, Deputy Inspector at the District Traffic Office, Tanahun.

A team of divers from Pokhara and Chitwan is searching in the river.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Tanahun Yubraj Khadka said traffic resumption is not likely very soon until a bailey bridge is fixed adding that the surface of the road is dampened from its bottom, making it difficult for prompt repair.

According to DSP Khadka, the vehicles have been diverted to their previous routes as immediate maintenance of the road there was not possible
