Finance and Labor Ministries shuffle chiefs of vital subordinate departments in run-up to local elections



KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Janardan Sharma and Labor and Employment Minister Krishna Kumar Shrestha have replaced director generals of crucial departments under them In the run-up to the election.

Finance Minister Sharma has transferred Narayan Sapkota, the director general of the Customs Department, after five months to Lumbini Province. Sharma himself had placed Sapkota in Customs Department earlier. According to ministry sources, Sapkota’s tuning with the minister was not sound of late.

Finance Minister Sharma also transferred Bhupal Baral, the head of the Ministry’s Budget Division, to the Department of Revenue Investigation and brought Jajarkot’s Chakra Bohara to lead the Budget Division. The budget division is considered an important division within the Ministry.

Preparations were made to bring Kamal Bhattarai as the director-general of the Customs Department

According to sources, Finance Minister Sharma is preparing to reshuffle senior staff in other crucial subordinate offices before the implementation of the election code of conduct.

Similarly, Labor Minister Krishna Kumar Shrestha has changed the director-general of the Department of Foreign Employment.

Director-General of the department Deepak Kafle has been transferred to the Ministry and Shesh Narayan Poudel has been brought to fill Kafle’s place.

According to Labor Ministry sources, Poudel was sent to the Department of Foreign Employment on the recommendation of Labor Secretary Eknarayan Aryal.
