Govt scared of local level polls, alleges UML Chair Oli

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli has said that the government is scared of local level polls.

Inaugurating the UML district convention in Sankhuwasabha Monday, the UML chair said the government had not started any preparation for holding elections despite a provision of the February/March deadline for the local level elections.

He said he did not see the possibility of local level elections happening despite the law stipulating polls be held by mid-March.

He accused the government of plotting to run the country through bureaucracy by keeping the country sans local level representatives. “This government is conspiring to run the country through civil servants by not holding elections on time and keeping the system devoid of local level representatives,” he said.

He further claimed that the government’s intention was to mobilize civil servants as administrators as was the case in the past.

Recalling the local level election took place in 2017 after a gap of 20, he was of the view that only the UML was a political party deserving public votes.
