Nepal defeats Bhutan by 1-0

KATHMANDU: Nepal has strengthened its chances of winning the title by winning for the third time in a row in the ongoing SAFF U15 Women’s Championship held in Bangladesh.

With a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Bhutan, Nepal has come close to winning the title by staying at the top.

Senu Pariyar’s goal in the second half was decisive in the victory of Nepal in the match held at the Bir Shrestha Shaheed Shipahi Mostafa Kamal Stadium known as Kamalapur Stadium in Dhaka, on Wednesday. She managed to score in the 49th minute.

Earlier, Nepal won by 7-0 in the first match of the round-robin league, but in the second match of the round-robin, Nepal could not break the strong defense of Bhutan and ended up with a narrow goal difference.

With this win, Nepal scored 9 points from 3 matches. Bangladesh has 6 points from the same match. After losing for the fourth consecutive match, Bhutan went out with no goals and no points.

Now, a draw against Bangladesh in the last match of the round-robin league will be enough for Nepal to become the champion. The match between Nepal and Bangladesh will be held on Friday.

The team with the most points at the end of the league will win the tournament.
