BARA: Seventy complaints have been filed against loan sharks in the District Administration Office (DAO), Bara.

The victims filed the complaints at the district administration office  after the Ministry of Home Affairs issued a public notice urging all victims to lodge complaints against the loan sharks.

The victims who were previously under pressure and threat of the loan sharks have filed the complaints for justice.

Among the registered complaints, 12 were received from Kalaiya, nine each from Jitpursimara and Mahagadhimai, six from Simraungadh, four from Prasauni and the rest from Kohabi and other municipalities, according to Bara District Administration Office.

Earlier, police investigations had shown that there was an increasing practice of lending money at exorbitant interest rate in Jitpursimra, Kalaiya, Kohlbi, Bariyarpur, and Simraungadh of the district.

Continuous pressure and never-ending loan payment procedures forced some families to lose their family members while some households had been rendered homeless.

Bara CDO Krishna Bahadur Katuwal said, “This process of registering complaint is going on now. Every day, we are receiving complaints against loan sharks. The number seems to be increasing.”

He further said that modalities were being prepared for action against the loan sharks.

Different investigations have shown that the loan sharks have been found investing their money paid by the debtors in illegal smuggling and purchase of drugs from the border.
