Dalikeh resident having derogatory name on citizenship submits application to change name

KATHMANDU: A person has applied to change his name on his citizenship after the Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notice with a request to change the derogatory names given at the time of citizenship.

Kabi Ram Kami applied to the Dailekh District Administration Office (DAO) on Tuesday to change his name on his citizenship. His first name on the citizenship was “Kukur” (dog), said DAO Dailekh.

As soon as the application was received, the DAO wrote to the District Police Office and Bhagwatimai Rural Municipality to verify information regarding the application.

The DAO soughts clarifications as to why such insulting name was in the citizenship and asked the authorities to verify that the person named “Kukur Kami” is the same as Kabi Ram Kami.

Kami in his application mentioned that his real name was Kabi Ram Kami but the Pradhan Panch during Panchayat era in the course of issuing citizenship recommended his name as “Kukur”.

Chief District Officer of Dailekh, Hari Pyakurel, said that the name of the citizenship would be changed after completing the necessary procedures.

“The Ministry of Home Affairs and the District Administration Office are serious about this matter. The process for amending the derogatory name in the citizenship has already started. The  name will be changed after verification.”
