NA Session: Voices aired for eliminating VAW



KATHMANDU: National Assembly member Bina Pokhrel has said women continue to be subjugated to suppression and injustice as traditional norms and values contravening the vision of building an equitable and just society are yet to be rejected.

Speaking in a meeting of the National Assembly (NA) on Thursday, the lawmaker expressed her concerns over increasing incidences of violence against women (VAW), including rape and sexual harassment, and said the government should take effective measures to combat it.

The lawmaker was of the view of regulating YouTube channels as they she claimed have gone out of control and indulged in promoting indecency in the society. She also sought to make primary to higher education materials women-friendly.

Similarly, Narayan Dutta Mishra said the agricultural sector was in a mess while Mahommad Khali and Bhuwan Bahadur Sunar drew the government’s attention to other contemporary issues.

In the meeting, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Govinda Prasad Sharma Koirala, presented the annual report of the National Natural Resources and Fiscal Commission for the fiscal year 2077/78 BS (2020-21).
