EC directs to create environment conducive for election publicity

The Election Commission (EC) has urged one and all to create a favourable environment for the political parties and candidates to carry out the publicity campaigns in a free, fair and fearless manner.

The EC has also called for security support to officials deployed for polls, monitoring officials, observers and voters.

Issuing directives to all 77 district administration offices through the Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday, the EC has asked to create free, fair and fearless polls environment, adding that, EC’s serious attention was drawn to the issues made public through the social networking sites regarding the obstruction for the candidates in their publicity mission.

NC expels 74 people, including central member Dinesh Koirala

The Nepali Congress (NC) has expelled 74 people from the party, including Central member Dinesh Koirala.

According to the NC Central Disciplinary Committee, rebel candidates, their proposers and supporters have been expelled from party membership for up to 5 years.

PM Deuba busy in meetings with party cadres, leaders in Dhangadhi

Prime Minister and Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba, who is currently in Dhangadhi in course of the election publicity campaign, keeps himself busy in party cadres’ meetings.

He has been in Dhangadhi since Sunday and trying to convince those factions not happy with the party leadership after the election tickets allocations and passive cadres to actively support the party when the voting day for the elections to the House of Representatives and Province Assembly is fast approaching.

According to NC District President Narayan Dutta Bhatta, the party President is busy in meeting with the dissenting party cadres and leaders, urging them to contribute for creating election atmosphere in favour of the ruling parties’ alliance.

Election a battle between progressive and regressive forces: Prachanda

Chairman of CPN Maoist Center Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda has claimed that the coalition will get an overwhelming majority in the provincial and House of Representative elections to be held on November 20.

Speaking to journalists in Salyan on Tuesday, Maoist Center Chairman Prachanda said that the coalition will form a new government after the election.

He said that the current election is a battle between progressive and regressive forces as there is no agenda with the other alliance formed under the CPN-UML initiation.

Three persons die in jeep accident in Kalikot

Three persons died when a jeep heading to Surkhet from Mugu met with an accident in Kalikot on Tuesday.

The accident took place at Khallagad in Tilagufa-5, Kalikot.

Seven people were injured when the jeep bearing number VE 1 CHA 4412, which was en route Surkhet from Mugu, met with an accident on the Karnali highway this afternoon.

Kalikot Police Office said 21-year-old Akkal Bishwakarma, 21-year-old Ramesh Budha and 25-year-old Sudarshan Sejuwal of Gamgadhi, Mugu, died in the accident.

According to police, there were 10 passengers in the jeep.

Unified Socialist leader Khatiwada manhandled in Makawanpur

CPN (Unified Socialist) leader Birodh Khatiwada was manhandled in Makawanpur at an election gathering on Tuesday.

Khatiwada, who is a candidate for Makawanpur Constituency 2 from the ruling alliance, was physically assaulted in Golghar of Manhari Rural Municipality-4.

Area Police Office Newarpani said that Khatiwada, who had reached the election gathering of the alliance organized in Golghar, was assaulted by 50-year-old Purushottam Khadka of Chowki Tole, Hetauda Sub-metropolitan City-2.

Khadka had slapped Khatiwada twice as he got out of his car and began to walk to the program venue, police sources said.

Nepal Insurance Authority formally starts business

With the Insurance Act-2079 BS coming into force from today, Nepal Insurance Authority (NIA) has formally begun its business.

The Act transforms the Beema Samiti (Insurance Board) into Nepal Insurance Authority (NIA).

At a program here today, NIA Chairperson Surya Prasad Silwal said the NIA now functions as the powerful regulatory body in the insurance sector.

The Samiti was established as an autonomous body to systematize, regularize, develop and regulate the insurance business within the country under Insurance Act, 1992.

On the occasion, Silwal stressed the need of gradually implementing the provisions incorporated in the Act.

Gandaki CM Pokharel sacks Energy Minister Acharya

 The Chief Minister of Gandaki Province Krishnachandra Nepali Pokharel has dismissed the Minister for Energy and Irrigation Harisharan Acharya on Tuesday.

According to a source close to Gandaki CM Pokharel, the Chief Minister sacked Acharya on the charge of supporting the opposition candidate in the forthcoming election in Gorkha.

NEPSE loses 2.57 points to close at 1,956.36 

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index has lost 2.57 points to close at 1,956.36 points on Tuesday.

Similarly, the sensitive index fell 1.12 points to close at 384.21 points.

A total of 2,773,737 units of shares of 226 companies were traded for Rs 1.053 billion.

Only four sub-indices closed green as the rest out of total 13 closed red.

Nepal sees 15 new coronavirus cases in past 24 hours

Nepal recorded a total of 12 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours as of Tuesday.

Of the confirmed cases, 10 cases were detected through the RT-PCR method and two through Antigen method.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, a total of 1,150 swab samples were tested in the past 24 hours.

Gold price down by Rs 300 per tola

 The price of gold has decreased by Rs 300 in the domestic market on Tuesday.

According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the hallmark gold is being traded at Rs 94,000 per tola and the price of worked gold is Rs 93,500 per tola.

Gold was traded at Rs 94,300 on Monday.
