Cervical cancer is increasing in Nepal

Cancer graph is declining in rich countries

Lately, reproductive problems are increasing in women. In reproductive health, there are some problems that can be seen during dry periods. The problem of bleeding has been bothering many women lately.

Based on this topic, Khabarhub’s Bina Neupane approached women and reproductive disease specialist Dr. Gisup Prasai. Excerpts:

Cervical cancer is seen as a major problem in women, why is it increasing of late?

Cervical cancer is on the rise in developing countries like ours. It is declining in rich nations. It has also increased due to our food lifestyle. We can check the initial state by performing a screening test. Since its symptoms appear quickly, it can be cured quickly and completely if treated early.

How to know about cervical cancer in advance?

When you go to the hospital, the doctors there examine to find out if you have cancer.

Is this problem in women caused only due to human papillomavirus or there are other reasons as well?

It is caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). This is mainly due to the habit of having physical contact with many people, and multiple partners. When a woman having many children ignores it, the problem might get worse.

Why is the problem increasing and how can we stop it?

Along with cervical cancer, we can prevent 33 percent of other cancers. We need to inform the public about cervical cancer, from diet to sexual intercourse, and the effects of having many children. It will be easy if we can spread public awareness in different remote places in Nepal. Public awareness makes it easier to identify diseases in the early stage.

What should the government do to enhance rural women’s access to treatment?

The first priority should be given by the government. However, government alone cannot do it. Hospitals also focus on women to enhance women’s access to treatment.

Government hospitals are also good in some places but in many places, they do not have good facilities. Now some centers have been opened in Chitwan, Kathmandu and eastern Nepal. The facility should be expanded to all seven provinces and the service should be delivered to each district.

What should the patients undergo the treatment of cervical cancer pay attention to?

One has to pay attention to the diet, one should take precautions against skin infection and should not use too hot water. One should not eat too much fat, should pay attention to hygiene and ensure safety while having sexual intercourse once you have cancer.

There is a high chance of it recurring in another place later. Therefore, one should take precautions remembering ‘Prevention is better than cure’.

What should you pay attention to as preventive measures against cervical cancer?

First, you should not have physical contact at a young age, should not have physical relationships with many people and should not have many children.

You should clean your body parts and take vaccines on time. Taking care of these things reduces the risk of getting this cancer.
