Speaker Sapkota says won’t contest Nov 20 election

KATHMANDU: Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota has said he would not contest the November 20 election.

He made the announcement by organizing a press meet in Kathmandu on Saturday.

Sapkota, a CPN (Maoist Center) leader, was elected to the House of Representatives in the 2017 election from the Sindhupalchowk-1 constituency.

Speaking at the press meet, he thanked voters of his constituency for electing him three times.

Sapkota said he decided against contesting the election to pave the way for the younger generation.

“I can perform any role for the wellbeing of the nation and its people,” Sapkota said, adding that his decision would motivate youth to make interventions in Nepali politics.
