Parajuli awarded PhD in Cognitive Linguistics



KATHMANDU: The Université Lumière Lyon of France has awarded the degree of doctorate (PhD) to Krishna Prasad Parajuli on the subject of Cognitive Linguistics.

Parajuli is from Kundadi, Bihadi Rural Municipality-3 of Parbat district. His PhD thesis is entitled ‘Motion Events in Nepali’.

The thesis is a study about how the Nepali speakers conceptualize and express action verbs, especially verbs like enter, exit, walk, run, etc in the Nepali language.

He completed the PhD thesis in five and half years.

Parajuli’s thesis directors are Anetta Kopecka, Université Lumière Lyon and Scott DeLancey, University of Oregon, USA.

A 53-year-old Parajuli completed his Master’s degree from the Central Department of Linguistics, Tribhuvan University in 2001.

Ambassador of France to Nepal, Gilles Bourbao handed the Certificate of PhD to Dr Parajuli in Kathmandu on Friday.

Dr Parajuli claimed that his is the first study on cognitive linguistics (action verbs) in Nepal and the second one in South Asia.
