HURPES lights oil lamps in Lumbini urging Russia to stop war in Ukraine for world peace



KATHMANDU: Oil lamps have been lit in the birthplace of Lord Gautam Buddha, Lumbini, calling on Russia to immediately stop the war in Ukraine for world peace.

Human Rights and Peace Society (HURPES) organized the lightning of oil lamps, urging one and all to prohibit war and promote peace, as well as to save the Himalayas and protect rivers.

The civil society organization had also lit lamps on April 4 in Tansen, Palpa, to draw attention towards world peace and the need for stopping the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Today’s oil lamp liting event marked the conclusion of the first phase of HURPES campaigns, ‘Save the Himalayas’, ‘Save Rivers’, ‘Quality Health Care and Scientific Education for All’, ‘Prohibition of War for Special Peace’, and ‘Say No to Drugs/Alcohol’, which started from Gorkha on March 31.

As part of the larger campaign, HURPES held 22 different programs various places of 20 districts, including in Lomanthang of Mustang in Gandaki Province, Lumbini, Bagmati and Karnali Province.
